There is a stretch of highway in Canada called the “Highway of Tears”.
It’s called that because there is no public transportation so people are forced to hitchhike. Dozens of women have gone missing as a result.
Public transportation like railways are vital to keeping commuters and travellers safe - but in Canada, public rail is under threat from privatization.
