Get Canada Back on Track: A Webinar Supporting VIA Rail
Passenger rail service in Canada is facing monumental challenges. From funding and service cuts to outdated equipment and infrastructure, we are seeing a decline in ridership and service quality, while workers’ jobs and safety are put at risk. Compared to other countries, our passenger rail system continues to fall embarrassingly behind.
It is time for the federal government to reinvest in modernizing our national public passenger rail service, ensuring that it provides safe, reliable and accessible transportation for people across the country, while supporting good, green, long-term jobs.
However, rather than make the necessary public investments to rebuild Canada's passenger rail infrastructure and improve services for travellers, the government is looking to privatize a significant portion of VIA Rail. We know that privatization only leads to higher costs for the public, while decreasing service and accountability.
Unifor members working at VIA Rail have a vision to fight privatization and enhance passenger rail services for all Canadians. Through the Get Canada Back on Track Campaign, they have been organizing and are inviting all Unifor members to take part in this campaign webinar.
